In June, 2006 I was living a fairytale life. I had a great job that I actually enjoyed (how many people can say that?). I met and married the perfect man (sorry ladies you'll have to settle for second best).
We had a fairytale wedding complete with a horse & carriage, twinkling lights, and my perfect dress (St. Pucchi, Major Princess, huge skirt, amazing veil trailing over the train which was hand embroidered with a gold and bronze motif, completely different from what most brides would wear but perfect for me).
We bought a house with extra rooms and when it was time, I became pregnant on the first try (against the odds for me). After a very difficult pregnancy, I delivered our beautiful and healthy little girl, Princess Alexandra, in June, 2006.
I was told that all of the problems that I was having would go away once I wasn't pregnant anymore, certainly within 3 months, but they didn't go away...they got worse. In November, 2006 I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) or Lupus. Actually, I was diagnosed with a pluthera of medical conditions but nobody has ever heard of Scleroderma, Polymyositis, Sjogren's Syndrome, Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, Raynaud's Disorder, Vasculitis, and the list goes on...and on...so I just say "Lupus". Ususally, someone has heard of Lupus even if they have no idea what it is, so they nod and smile.
This is my story, my place to educate, enlighten, sometimes complain. If you can relate, I'd love to hear from you.
Will my fairytale have a happy ending? I don't know.
